Welfare Association Jared (WAJ) celebrated International Volunteer Day (IVD) mandated by the UN General Assembly, on December 5, 2017 in WAJ head office. The theme of the year is “Volunteers Act First. Here. Everywhere” The event provided opportunity to WAJ’s founding members sit together and reflects back at their work done for the promotion and protection of human rights and environment. They also discussed on various strategy for their future work.
Sabir Hussain founding member WAJ appraised the volunteers about the history of WAJ, its achievement and the hardships faced at the initial days of WAJ. Nisar Ahmad, Muhammad Asif, Atiq-U-Rehman, Omar Javed, Muhammad Saleem and other founding alsoparticipated in the meeting. They appreciated the spirit of WAJ’s volunteers for doing marvelous work since 1988 in governance, advocacy, gender mainstreaming, livelihood, disastermanagement and microfinance.
Mukhtar Javed Executive Director WAJ in his remarks said that unique chance for volunteers and organizations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work among their communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector.
He briefed the volunteers about WAJ’s new projects in pipelines. He appreciated the substantial support of volunteers extended to WAJ during the last 28-years. He also paid homage to world volunteer who are doing meritorious services for the betterment of community without any discrimination of religion, gender, caste and creed. We can never forget the contributions of volunteers as first responders in times of flood 1992 and earthquake 2005, he further said.
